Nestled in the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge contains the oldest, continuously surviving rainforest on earth. Just one hectare of the 120,000 hectare forest can contain over 30,000 species of plants and animals. Considered by many to be the evolutionary cradle for much of Australia’s plant and wildlife species, the forest has managed to survive for over 135 million years and. While in mossman Gorge Park you have opportunity to have a swim in pristine waters of Mossman River.
• HARTLEY'S CROCODILE ADVENTURE PARK
We'll have a wildlife park tour with a private ranger. Also included a private boat cruise on the wetlands to try and spot the crocodiles lurking in the murky waters below. See them leap from the Hartleys' Lagoon to jump up and grab the chicken being dangled from a pole on the side of the boat.
As well as crocodiles you'll see other animals here - kangaroos, koalas, reptiles, quolls, parrots, jabirus, cassowaries.
• DAINTREE RIVER CRUISE
Your cruise will take you along sections of this spectacular waterway with your guide pointing out wildlife and flora along the foreshore and creeks. The guide will interpret the importance of this amazing World Heritage location. A cruise on the Daintree River is a "must-do" activity as part of your Daintree Rainforest experience. The vessels are well equipped, comfortable and. stable in all weather conditions.
The Daintree is the habitat of an extensive array of wildlife many of which are endemic to this eco system only. This is also the habitat of the estuarine or saltwater crocodile seen regularly on these cruises, also look out for other reptiles, rare birds, flying foxes and beautiful butterflies. The Wet Tropics World Heritage Region is home to: 26% of Australia's frogs, 17% of it's reptiles, 58% of it's butterflies, 30% of marsupial species and 48% of it's birds.
