Join us on a journey back in time to Chillagoe Caves & Outback
and you never be disappoint! We'll ascend the McAllister Ranges (Kuranda Range) and head west via Mareeba embarking on a remarkable journey back to prehistoric times, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. You will see amazing wildlife, nature wonders like balanced rock or Chillagoe Caves an aray of agricultural crops, historic towns and a insight into Australia's outback.
Day Tour Itinerary:
• Cairns / Port Douglas Hotel pick-up
• Ascending to McAllister Ranges (Kuranda Range) and head west via Mareeba
• Refreshing coffee at the Jaques coffee plantation (own expenses)
• GRANITE GORGE PARK
At Granite Gorge Nature Park where you can take a guided walk across large granite outcrops and boulders, with fantastic photo, and get up close opportunities with the wild rock wallabies in their natural habitat. You can hand feed them macropod pellets.
These particular rock wallabies are rare and endangered and can only be seen up close here.
• Driving about 2
hours from Mareeba to Chillagoe town. On we way to Chillagoe you will see real outback with unsealed red soil roads and termite nests, kangaroos and cows

After leaving the Wetlands we travel west and time permitting travelling past Lappa Junction, this was once a thriving mining site and railway siding. From here we travel through historical towns and rolling hills rich in mineral eventually giving way to towering limestone karsts scattered around Chillagoe.
Here we delve into the history of the copper smelters, whose old chimneys dominate the western horizon.
• We visit the remains of the once mighty smelters to ponder what it was like working there
• Turning to Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park
• Strolling to Balanced Rock, Royal Arch Nature Wonder
• Visiting self-guided cave or guide-guided cave.
• Now it's time for a wonderful Pub (Post Office Hotel) lunch enjoy one of the best Beef Burgers the north has to offer or enjoy fish chips and salad we also cater for vegetarians upon request. Here there is a chance to meet the true outback locals enjoy this historic pub built back at the turn of the century.
• We head back towards the east coast, stopping at Mt Uncle Distillery for a choice of their delicious coffee and scones or sample the Spirit and Liqueur tasting possibly a wine or beer (own cost).
• Cairns / Port Douglas hotels drop off
