Mount Field NP, Mountains & Gordon Dam Private Tour
Into the Wild. Travel through the Derwent Valley into the heart of the Southwest National Park World Heritage Area. This tour offers a mix of tall forests, waterfalls, and the breathtaking engineering marvel of the Gordon Dam.
1. Mount Field National Park
Walk among the giants in one of Tasmania's most loved national parks.
- Russell Falls: A short, easy walk takes you to this iconic tiered waterfall.
- Tall Trees Walk: Stand beneath the massive Swamp Gum eucalyptus trees, some of the tallest in the world.
2. Journey to the Southwest
We drive deeper into the wilderness, passing through rugged mountain landscapes and the sentinel peaks of the Sentinel Range. The drive itself is spectacular, offering views of Lake Pedder and the untamed bushland.
3. Gordon Dam
The destination is the awe-inspiring Gordon Dam. Walk out onto the curved wall (if you dare!) which holds back the massive Gordon Lake. It is the tallest arch dam in Tasmania (140m) and offers vertigo-inducing views down into the gorge.
4. Local Flavors
On the return journey, we can stop at local highlights in the Derwent Valley such as the Salmon Ponds (historic trout hatchery) or seasonal berry farms for fresh produce.
